Christmas Event Turns Into Jingle Brawl in Wealthy Mass. Town [WATCH]

A festive Christmas celebration on Nantucket devolved into chaos last weekend when a wild street brawl erupted in the middle of the island’s annual holiday festivities.

The melee unfolded Saturday on Federal Street during the 51st Nantucket Christmas Stroll, as hundreds gathered to watch Santa Claus arrive in the famously wealthy enclave.

Video from the scene shows a group of men, ranging from their 20s to their 60s, arguing and shoving one another in the street before tempers fully exploded.

The crowd eventually split into two camps. In one, two older men can be seen pushing each other aggressively. In another, a younger man shoves an individual, only to have someone leap onto his back and drag him to the ground.

That’s when things turned ugly.

A full-scale brawl broke out as multiple people began throwing haymakers, turning the holiday stroll into a no-holds-barred slugfest.

“It was kind of like the Jets and the Sharks from ‘West Side Story,’ only in Ralph Lauren and Burberry,” a witness told KISS108, describing the clash. “It was 20-somethings versus, like, 60-somethings.”

“It was crazy,” she added. “It was mayhem.”

Police have not said what sparked the fight, leaving the cause of the Christmas chaos — and the bruised egos — still unclear.
