WHO Wants to Force Doctors and Nurses to Do Abortions

The World Health Organization (WHO) is facing criticism from pro-life advocates for issuing new guidelines that pressure doctors and nurses to kill babies in abortions, even against their moral or religious convictions.

The move is seen as a direct assault on conscience rights, prompting renewed scrutiny of the organization’s agenda following the United States’ withdrawal from the WHO earlier this year.

According to a report by the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam), the WHO’s latest guidelines assert that health workers “must align their beliefs with their professional duties,” effectively urging medical professionals to set aside personal objections to abortion. The guidelines, aimed at ensuring access to abortions, are viewed by pro-life groups as an attempt to erode protections for healthcare providers who refuse to participate in killing babies.

“This language is a clear attack on the conscience rights of doctors and nurses,” said a C-Fam analysis, highlighting concerns that the WHO is prioritizing abortion access over the ethical principles of medical professionals. The report notes that such directives could force healthcare workers in countries with limited legal protections to either perform abortions or face professional repercussions, potentially driving conscientious objectors out of the medical field.

The controversy comes in the wake of President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the WHO, announced on January 20.

The move, celebrated by pro-life advocates, was motivated by what Trump described as the organization’s “pro-abortion bias” and its handling of global health policies.

“The WHO has pushed a radical agenda that promotes abortion and undermines the sanctity of life,” a statement from the Trump administration said, citing the organization’s policies as a key reason for the U.S. exit. Pro-life groups argue that the WHO’s guidelines reflect a broader trend of international bodies advancing abortion as a human right, often at the expense of religious and moral freedoms.

C-Fam emphasized that the WHO’s stance could disproportionately affect healthcare systems in developing nations, where conscience protections are often weaker.

“The WHO is trying to normalize abortion as a standard medical practice, regardless of what doctors or nurses believe,” the report stated.

The Trump administration’s decision followed years of tensions, including accusations that the WHO mismanaged the COVID-19 pandemic and aligned with policies contrary to American values.
