Building on a 2022 law which gave protection to abortionists from lawsuits in other states, Massachusetts pro-abortion Gov. Maura Healey has signed an updated “shield law” which conceals the identity of Massachusetts abortionists, abortion activists, doctors and others, who conduct “telehealth abortions,” and who prescribe or ship abortion drugs, such as mifepristone, to pro-life states where unborn children are protected.
Prior to passage, Myrna Maloney Flynn, President of Massachusetts. Citizens for Life, said, “Those who voted in favor of [the bill] have not only encouraged Massachusetts physicians to break abortion laws in other states but have approved protecting their illegal activities as well.”
Going forward, Massachusetts abortionists who prescribe mifepristone to women in areas where it is outlawed have more ways to hide their crimes and conceal their identities. The bill goes far beyond protecting unethical doctors though. It all but assures the inability to hold accountable those physicians whose actions result in serious injuries to women who consume the abortion pill without any medical oversight. We look forward to the likely federal response in the coming weeks.

C.J. Doyle, executive director of the Catholic League of Massachusetts, said “S.2543 is special interest legislation for the Massachusetts abortion industry.” He added “Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses will, with complete legal immunity, be empowered to ship the toxic abortion drug Mifepristone into states where its use is prohibited.”
Cassy Cooke of Live Action News [https://www.liveaction.org/news/massachusetts-legislature-bill-protecting-abortionists-break-prolife] wrote that Healey action is of a piece with her previous pro-abortion record.
In her time as governor, Healey has continued to uphold Massachusetts’ status as an abortion haven, launching smear campaigns against pregnancy resource centers and spending millions of dollars to pay for low-income women to have abortions.
Doyle emphasized that
Mifepristone kills unborn children, and in as many as one in ten cases, causes adverse medical complications for the women who use it.
This measure is a legislative licence for Bay State abortionists to violate the laws of other American states, while being shielded from any criminal prosecution, civil liability or professional discipline.
