Wildfires, riots, the middle class is hollowing out, manufacturers are looking for the exit at near stampede rates, housing is unaffordable – even for the departing middle class, taxes are astronomical, roads are in a gross state of disrepair, they are running out of water – and what is California worried about? Donald Trump. Like Trump created that mess?! California’s decline began well before Trump was on the political spectrum – Give me a break!
But what are the headlines out of California?
What has Trump done to them? Seriously? Let’s see, he is enforcing federal immigration law, he is trying to get a grossly antisemitic university into line and trying to get his party elected – again. Where’s the crime? The redistricting stuff is outrageously laughable. California has so altered the election rules there to favor Democrats that I seriously doubt a Republican has a decent shot at statewide office. Last time the California Controller was up on a ballot, Republican Lanhee Chin ran – one of the smartest most qualified guys you could ever want – and he could not win for an office no one even cares about. That dear friends is rigged far more than any redistricting Texas is contemplating.
Earlier this week, the French Air Traffic Control system had to suspend a controller who shouted “Free Palestine!’ to an El Al pilot. How does that make any sense? That pilot might not even be Israeli and he sure as heck does not control, or even influence, the nation’s policy vis-a-vie Palestine. Such an act is indicative of someone obsessed with their hatred of Israel to the point that they cannot do their job.
Likewise, Newsom, and Karen Bass, are so consumed with their hatred of Trump that they are forgetting the jobs they currently hold. Chances are good that Trump’s political comeback signals the end of a viable candidacy for higher office for people like Newsom and Bass. That’s why they are so angry. But what is astonishing is that they could have a viable candidacy if they buckled down and did the job. Nothing breeds success like success. Unless, of course, they simply cannot do the job, then Trump’s election just revealed their ineptitude – and that is why they are so obsessed.
Tuesday we analyzed the the host’s contention that in the current time “politics is brass tacks.” But I think it is worse than that – this is personal. In my life experience only racial hatred or personal affront (real or imagined) can create this level of irrational, self-defeating animus. Which indicates that people like Newsom and Bass are not in the game to serve the public – they are in it for their own personal aggrandizement. Democrats would be quite foolish to follow Newsom onto the POTUS ballot – they won’t get what they want, they’ll get what he wants.
