In a significant victory for the pro-life movement, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced that it will halt all abortions starting next week, sparing countless unborn children from the violence of abortion
The decision to stop killing babies comes amid federal Medicaid funding cuts that have crippled the abortion organization’s operations.
The decision, effective immediately following the implementation of President Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill signed in July, marks a pivotal moment in the nationwide effort to defund and dismantle the abortion industry. Planned Parenthood, long criticized by pro-life advocates for prioritizing abortions over genuine health care, will pause scheduling patients for the procedure as it grapples with the loss of critical taxpayer-funded Medicaid reimbursements that previously subsidized its broader services.

Tanya Atkinson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, confirmed the pause in a statement, saying, “Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will continue to provide the full spectrum of reproductive health care, including abortion, as soon and as we are able to. In the meantime, we are pursuing every available option through the courts, through operations, and civic engagement.”
Pro-life leaders hailed the development as a direct result of policies that redirect taxpayer dollars away from entities that profit from ending innocent lives, emphasizing that the funding cuts target not just abortions but the entire apparatus enabling them.
In comments to LifeNews, Heather Weininger, Executive Director of Wisconsin Right to Life, celebrated the news that babies will be saved:
“Taxpayer dollars should never fund the taking of innocent preborn lives. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has long centered its operations around abortion services, and this announcement only confirms that reality. Women and girls facing difficult or unexpected pregnancies deserve compassion, real support, and life-affirming care — and that’s exactly what the pro-life movement is committed to providing.”
While the Hyde Amendment has long prohibited the direct use of federal tax dollars for abortion, pro-life advocates have raised concerns about how taxpayer funding indirectly sustains the abortion industry by subsidizing operations and infrastructure. The new law directly addresses these concerns by closing loopholes that have allowed abortion providers to benefit from Medicaid dollars.
The federal appeals court ruling, which allowed the federal government to halt Medicaid payments to Planned Parenthood while legal challenges proceed, has forced the abortion business to confront the unsustainable model built on federal subsidies.
This pause comes after Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin resumed abortions at three abortion centers two years ago, following a 15-month suspension triggered by the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and empowered states to protect unborn life.
In July 2025, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the state’s 1849 law protecting babies from abortions, ruling it superseded by newer laws.
