Pennsylvania Committee Passes Bill Legalizing Abortions Up to Birth

A package of pro-abortion bills approved by the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee threatens the health and safety of women and babies.

“These bills turn back the clock on protections for women and babies,” said Maria Gallagher,

executive director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, the Keystone State affiliate of National Right to Life.

“This legislation would do everything from establish wide scale taxpayer funding of abortion to allow abortion up to birth. It is simply outrageous, and it is wrong for Pennsylvania,” Gallagher added.

One measure would eliminate the 24 hour reflection period for abortion as well as the counseling requirements. This would mean that women would no longer be told the risks of abortion and alternatives to abortion before an abortion takes place.

“This legislation leaves pregnant women in the dark. They deserve to know their full range of options, and this measure would deprive them of that critical information,” Gallagher said.

“We call on the PA House to do the right thing and reject this dangerous legislation for the sake of women and babies throughout the Commonwealth,” Gallagher said.
