Planned Parenthood Wisconsin Will Resume Killing Babies in Abortions

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced Monday it will resume killing babies in abortions, ending a nearly month-long pause after President Donald trump signed a bill Congress approved to defund Planned Parenthood.

The resumption comes after Planned Parenthood relinquished its federal Essential Community Provider status to comply with a provision in the legislation. That law bars Planned Parenthood clinics from receiving Medicaid reimbursements because it also kills babies in abortions.

This makes it clear that Planned Parenthood’s abortion-first business is exactly that.

Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller commented on the move.

“We’ve known for 90 years that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin was never an essential community provider. Now they have made it official, so they can resume killing babies while still receiving our tax dollars to operate their grisly business,” he said. “Abortion is not health care. Ask any baby who has been at the business end of a Planned Parenthood forceps.”

He added:

Women in Wisconsin deserve real care and real support for themselves and their babies. There are over 60 pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) and many federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) that are serving vulnerable women all across the state, and we do not need Planned Parenthood to ensure that these populations have the care they need going forward. We encourage women looking for health care and pregnancy support to find a FQHC or PRC near them by visiting dhs.wisconsin.gov/forwardhealth/clinics.htm or crisispregnancies.org.

Tanya Atkinson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, said the abortion group dropped its Essential Community Provider status after a September 29 court filing by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services clarified options for it to continue billing Medicaid.

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction in July blocking the budget law’s abortion provision, deeming it likely unconstitutional for targeting Planned Parenthood. But a September 11 appeals court ruling put that injunction on hold, enforcing the measure pending further review.

Planned Parenthood killed 3,727 babies in abortions in Wisconsin from Oct. 1, 2023, to Sept. 30, 2024.

“Planned Parenthood’s business model of taking preborn lives underscores why taxpayer funding should never support organizations that make abortion a priority,” Wisconsin Right to Life said.
