New York Gov. Kathy Hochul Gives Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz $35 Million

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Friday that the state will redirect more than $35 million in taxpayer funds to the Planned Parenthood Abortion business to offset federal Medicaid cuts, a move pro-life advocates decried as a blatant subsidy for the nation’s largest abortion company at the expense of vulnerable women and unborn children. The funding, allocated across five Planned Parenthood affiliates operating 47 clinics statewide, aims to sustain the abortion giant after defending under the bill Congress passed this year.

The cuts, enacted through H.R. 1 — dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” — were signed by President Donald Trump in July, stopping the nation’s largest abortion chain from getting tax dollars to enhance its business killing babies.

Hochul, a Democrat, framed the state intervention as a defense of reproductive rights, stating: “Washington Republicans have shown time and again that they’ll stop at nothing to undermine women’s health care and restrict access to reproductive rights. In the face of Congressional Republicans voting to defund Planned Parenthood, I’ve directed the state to fund these vital services, protecting access to health care that thousands of New Yorkers rely on. I will always stand up for reproductive rights and the health care that New Yorkers deserve.”

She added that the investment underscores New York’s “ongoing commitment to preserving reproductive rights and maintaining access to comprehensive health care for all residents.”

Ironically the move and abortions denies health care to thousands of babies and hurts women in the process.

Pro-life leaders blasted the allocation as a politically motivated lifeline to an organization they accuse of prioritizing abortions over genuine health care.

Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, said in a statement: “New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) just announced that the Empire State will be sending $35 MILLION in taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood to STICK IT to President Trump and pro-lifers like you and me.”

Hawkins highlighted a recent ABC7 NY report noting: “In July, President Donald Trump signed a one-year ban on state Medicaid payments to major nonprofits that offer abortions. ‘Since the passage of the law, Planned Parenthood clinics have been forced to choose between providing abortions and staying open.’”

She continued: “In other words, if they would just STOP committing abortions, they wouldn’t have to give up a dime of taxpayer funding! That’s how bloodthirsty the Abortion Goliath is.”

Students for Life Action, Hawkins’ affiliated group, is ramping up calls for Planned Parenthood’s full debarment from federal funding for at least three years, arguing the organization — which kills over 425,000 babies yearly — diverts resources from life-affirming alternatives like prenatal support and adoption services.

The federal cuts stem from decades-long Republican efforts to enforce the Hyde Amendment, a 1977 law barring federal funds for abortions, though states like New York have long skirted restrictions through creative accounting. A federal judge briefly blocked the Medicaid prohibition in July, but a U.S. appeals court last month permitted the Trump administration to enforce it during ongoing litigation.

The Supreme Court has upheld states’ rights to withhold such funds, as in a South Carolina case.
