Boston Globe Coverage of Pro-Life March Was Horribly Biased

Last year, The Boston Globe provided reasonably balanced coverage of the National Men’s March To Abolish Abortion And Rally For Personhood.

This year’s coverage in New England’s paper of record was little more than a celebration of the hate groups that came to disrupt the pro-life event, which was held in Boston on Saturday, All Saints Day, November 1st.

The hostile tone of this year’s reporting was apparent in the first sentence of the Globe article, when hundreds of pro-life Catholic men were dismissed as mere “Dozens of anti-abortion demonstrators…”

A plurality of the Globe coverage was devoted to the extremist thugs who came to harass and intimidate Catholics while they recited the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Of the 44 paragraphs in the text of the Globe story, sixteen were about the so-called counter-protestors, while only fifteen were dedicated to the march itself.

Three paragraphs covered both sides, while five more focused on the police presence at the event. Five additional paragraphs were, of course, about President Donald Trump.

Visual coverage was even more lopsided.

Of the ten photographs accompanying the piece, six featured the totalitarians costumed in clown suits and dinosaur outfits, while only four showed the Catholics marching with crucifixes, rosaries and banners of Our Lady.

In a normal news story, one would expect that one of the organizers of the event, or one of the speakers at the rally, would be interviewed.

Instead, for the Globe reporters, the object of their attention was one Rob Potylo, a.k.a Robby Roadsteamer, a.k.a the Planned Parenthood Pony, a left wing performance artist, who appears to be a functionally unemployed narcissist perpetually seeking publicity for himself.

Potylo, when he is not being arrested by ICE, specializes in harassing and insulting elderly Catholics who pray in front of abortion clinics.

Globe reporters Jamie Moore-Carrillo, Laura Grimaldi and Nathan Metcalf devoted five paragraphs of their story, along with one photo to the loud, thuggish and bizarre Mr. Potylo, who was escorted away by Boston Police after, as the story revealed, he “tried to drown out march organizers using a bullhorn.”

Catholic Action League Executive Director C. J. Doyle made the following comments:

“On All Saints Day, a group of faithful Catholic men, in America’s most historically Catholic city, walked through the streets of Boston praying the Rosary for the protection of the innocent unborn.

They were met by thugs, haters and bigots who mocked them, harassed them, and tried to disrupt them, drown them out and shout them down while they exercised their constitutional rights to freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, and the freedom of religion.

Disturbing an Assembly of Worship is a crime in Massachusetts, and, since 1994, has been categorized as a hate crime.

Leftists constantly make reference to Nazis and Fascists, but ignore real examples of authoritarian behavior when it comes from their side.

Weimar Germany was present on the streets of Boston on All Saints Day. Instead of brown shirts and arm bans, the enemies of the Cross wore elaborate theatrical costumes.

Their purpose was the same however—to intimidate Christians and drive them from the public square.

For The Boston Globe, usually the most judgmental of newspapers, the hounding and badgering of Catholics was all very benign.

Thirty-five years ago, at Holy Cross Cathedral, when ACT-UP pelted newly ordained priests with condoms and shouted obscenities at their parents, the Globe described the assault against Catholics as “noisy and colorful.”

For The Boston Globe, the reporters and editors may change, but the party line is always the same.

Jim Havens, his team, and all who participated in the Men’s March, are to be commended for their splendid Catholic example and courageous pro-life witness in Boston on All Saint Day.”
