After evaluating 45,000 youths, an interesting study out of Germany found that with increasing religiosity, Christian teens became less violent. The research also found, however, that with increasing religiosity, Muslim teens became more violent. That was back in 2010. Now, 15 years later, another study in Germany finds that violence among migrant children is exploding. Meanwhile, native German youth are actually becoming more peaceful.
(If the Morlocks and Eloi come to mind for you here, you’re not alone. You’re also probably over 45 [if you’d make that association].)
Of course, none of this means the German kinder are “Christian,” except in name (secularism reigns in today’s Western Europe). Nor does it mean all the criminal migrant youths are Muslim, though an inordinate percentage would be. Germany isn’t alone, either, as some other nations are also experiencing this fruit of diversity. Why, some migrant children are “waging war” in Norway, with two 13-year-olds having hurled grenades at a storefront in September. The kicker:
Authorities can’t charge the little miscreants. Because kids younger than 15 can’t be prosecuted under Norwegian law for even serious crimes. Danish and Swedish law has the same loophole, too.
Deutschland Unter Alles?
As to the story out of Germany, website Remix reports on the aforementioned recent research:
The study, produced by the University of Cologne and the State Criminal Police Office, looks at youth crime in North Rhine-Westphalia….
The study found that more and more of the criminal suspects in the German state are children, with attacks on teachers, police officers, and emergency responders reaching alarming figures. In particular, the study shows that children with a migration background are causing significant damage.
Over the course of several months, researchers surveyed 3,800 students in grades seven through nine at 27 different schools in the area of Gelsenkirchen, Marl, and Herten. These are known as especially high-crime areas in the western German state. The same study was conducted in 2015, with dramatically different results this time around.
The study showed that violence, hatred, and disrespect are all increasing among young perpetrators.
Note here that Germany’s “migrant-background” population now accounts for a whopping 30.4 percent of the country. (“Migrant background” references those not born with German citizenship or having at least one parent who wasn’t thus born.) More strikingly, the migrant background share rises to ~40-45 percent for those 0-18, according to a Grok AI analysis. It also finds that for children under five, the percentage is 43.1. In other words, native Germans are disappearing.
Note as well, however, that many of the migrants are fellow Europeans. This said, the largest migrant group arriving between 2015 and 2021 was Syrians (716,000). And Muslims now constitute 6.5 percent of the German population.
Now Norway, Too
Norway is traditionally known for stunning landscapes, a unique farming culture, and its people’s love of nature. But how much they know about human nature is questionable, as recent times’ happenings attest. Just consider the story about the two 13-year-old grenade hurlers in Oslo, Norway’s capital. As The Telegraph reported Monday, the two boys had
just completed their first major operation for Foxtrot, a crime syndicate that originated in Sweden but [which] is now expanding across the border into Norway.
Foxtrot is one of Europe’s most ruthless criminal networks linked to dozens, if not hundreds, of bomb attacks and attempted contract killings as its foot soldiers vie for control of the Scandinavian drug trade.
Grenade attacks and shootings are thought to be an effort to scare off their new competition for organised crime in passive Norway….
“Since it was founded in Stockholm around 2010,” the paper continues, “the syndicate has proved virtually impossible to dismantle.” Yes, well, when you’re “passive” even the possible becomes impossible.
The Telegraph further informs that “Rawa ‘Kurdish Fox’ Majid, the syndicate’s leader, issues his orders from Iran.” That’s “where he lives under the protection of the Ayatollah’s regime.”
The paper also tells us of Foxtrot recruits, that “the vast majority of such children come from a migrant background.” Then there’s this, again from The Telegraph:
A legal loophole in Denmark, Norway and Sweden means that children under the age of 15 cannot be prosecuted for even the most serious offences, such as murder — making them ideal recruits.
Perhaps “passive” doesn’t completely encapsulate the problem. Having transitioned from Vikings to Viqueens comes to mind.
Half Measures and Half-baked Thinking
Sweden, however, is making changes. It’s preparing to lower the age of “criminal responsibility” for most serious crimes from 15 to 13. Okay, so now the criminals will try to recruit 11- and 12-year-olds.
Obviously, as if a nation claimed it would never “put boots on the ground,” telegraphing self-imposed limitations to adversaries is never a good idea. The rational approach is to, while recognizing children shouldn’t be treated like adults, not having any age limit for responsibility. This is the compassionate approach, too.
For an age limit gives the criminals incentive to target and corrupt younger children.
As to a deeper problem, there’s also this from Remix, writing of Germany:
“Students today experience that rule violations go unpunished. Teachers intervene less and less,” [a] researcher said.
…[D]iscipline is no longer a major factor in many schools.
This does not only apply to high-profile violent crimes, but also values, mores and social attitudes.
In 2015, 32.5 percent of students found it unacceptable not to do their homework, while last year, this figure fell to just 15 percent. In 2015, 80 percent of students considered truancy to be wrong, while last year, this figure fell to just under 60 percent.
Let’s now add perspective. Whatever European nation is at issue, an observation by Anglo-Irish philosopher Edmund Burke is relevant here. To wit:
Society cannot exist, unless a controlling power upon will and appetite be placed somewhere; and the less of it there is within, the more there must be without.
Europeans have admitted migrants hailing from countries with severe controlling power placed “without.” For example, Arab Muslim lands may administer Draconian punishments to keep citizens in check (e.g., hand amputation for theft). Now, put people thus conditioned in permissive, slap-on-the-wrist Western nations, and what happens?
Life Imitating Art?
This brings me back to the Eloi and Morlocks analogy. The two groups are from H.G. Wells’ 1895 science fiction novella The Time Machine, and exist in the distant future. The Eloi are fragile, childlike surface-dwellers who appear to live in paradise. In reality, though, they’re sheep-like prey who the Morlocks — rough-hewn subterranean creatures with a bit more smarts — hunt at night. The Eloi are “mere fatted cattle,” possessing neither the guts nor sense to defend themselves.
So we could say that permissive Western Europe has a criminal-justice system calibrated for Eloi, not Morlocks. So what’s now happening is no surprise.
But here’s where the analogy breaks down. As Europeans allow imported rule-breakers to flout standards without consequence, deviancy is defined downwards. This affects even their Eloi, who themselves will also begin ignoring rules and becoming less virtuous. Social breakdown is the result.
All this said, we will surely be reminded and must remember: Our strength lies in our diversity.
