President Threatens $1B Lawsuit Over ‘Defamatory’ Jan. 6 Doc

President Donald Trump is going to war with the BBC — and the price tag could hit $1 billion.

The President has given Britain’s state broadcaster until Friday to retract what he calls “false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements” aired in a controversial BBC Panorama documentary — or face a billion-dollar lawsuit.

The film, Trump: A Second Chance, has already rocked the network. Critics accused it of editing Trump’s January 6, 2021 speech to mislead viewers — cutting his call for “peaceful protest” and splicing together out-of-context clips to make him sound violent.

The fallout has been seismic: BBC director-general Tim Davie and news chief Deborah Turness have both resigned amid the furor.

Now Trump is striking back.

His attorney, Alejandro Brito, sent a blistering letter Sunday to BBC Chair Samir Shah and general counsel Sarah Jones, demanding a full retraction. The letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, accuses the BBC of deliberately fabricating and airing false statements about Trump’s rally remarks.

“Failure to comply,” it warns, “will leave President Trump with no choice but to pursue any and all legal rights and remedies available to recover damages for the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that the BBC has caused.”

The letter singles out the BBC’s use of a chopped-up quote: “We’re gonna walk down to the Capitol, and I’ll be there with you, and we fight. We fight like hell.”

But the actual words, Trump’s team says, were very different: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women.”

Even more telling, they add, the BBC edited out the line that has been on record since day one:

“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

Trump’s lawyers argue that by erasing his call for peace, the BBC tried to frame him as inciting violence, right before the 2024 election.
