According to a Fox News report, a quiet Sunday in Charlotte exploded into violence when a man allegedly drove his van toward federal agents — slamming into law enforcement vehicles as a massive immigration sweep rocked the city.
The suspect, a U.S. citizen, aimed his van at officers near the University City area during an enforcement operation, the Department of Homeland Security said in a post on X.
He then tore off, triggering what DHS called a “dangerous high-speed chase through a densely populated area.”
Agents boxed him in — and that’s when he allegedly rammed the vehicles again, desperate to break free.
“During the chase, he attempted to ram into law enforcement vehicles — posing a serious public safety threat,” DHS said.
“As agents were boxing him in — the driver proceeded to ram law enforcement vehicles in an attempt to escape.”
One officer was injured. Inside the van, agents found a firearm.
OMG
A lunatic with prior arrests tried ramming ICE today with his car in North Carolina.
He ended up leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase and one agent was injured.
Pray for our brave ICE agents! 🙏🏻

DHS said the suspect’s record speaks for itself: “The perpetrator has prior arrests for resisting law enforcement, public disturbance and intoxication/ disruptive conduct.”

The violent encounter comes as Charlotte becomes the latest flashpoint in a major federal immigration crackdown.
U.S. Border Patrol agents fanned out across the city — home to more than 900,000 people — arresting at least 130 illegal immigrants in a sweeping operation, according to the Associated Press.
The strategy is part of a broader federal push to protect communities, said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, who framed the raids as a direct response to rising public-safety threats.
A DHS spokesperson confirmed every arrest involved someone with a criminal record.
“Criminal records of those arrested include known gang membership, aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, simple assault, hit and run, possession of stolen goods, shoplifting, DUI, DWI, and illegal re-entry after prior deportation, a felony,” the spokesperson told Fox News’ Madison Scarpino.
“We will not stop enforcing the laws of our nation until every criminal illegal alien is arrested and removed from our country.”
