175 Members of Congress Tell FDA to End Biden’s Mail-Order Abortion Drug Policy

Following last month’s letter from 51 U.S. senators to the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services calling to reinstate commonsense safeguards on abortion drugs, 175 U.S. representatives led by Rep. Chris Smith (NJ-04) and pharmacist Rep. Diana Harshbarger (TN-01) sent a letter demanding answers from Secretary Robert F. Kennedy and Commissioner Marty Makary.

The FDA’s recent approval of a new generic version of the drug comes even as Joe Biden’s COVID-era mail-order abortion policy remains inexplicably in effect, putting women and unborn children at risk and undermining state pro-life laws.

The letter urges the FDA to swiftly reinstate in-person doctor visits and end Biden’s mail-order policy while the administration’s promised safety review is underway.

As the letter states:

These drugs are sent across state lines with no physician oversight, and without appropriate screening to ensure that bad actors are not secretly poisoning women without their knowledge or forcing women to take abortion drugs against their will – a clear indication that radical pro-abortion activists care more about protecting abortion access than about upholding women’s health and safety.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:

“We join House and Senate Republicans in calling on the FDA to – at a minimum – immediately end Joe Biden’s legacy of mail-order abortion and restore the in-person doctor requirement that existed during President Trump’s first administration. Seven in 10 voters agree. We are deeply grateful to Reps. Chris Smith and Diana Harshbarger for leading this important letter, and to House leadership and every member of Congress who joined in standing for women and their unborn children.

“No woman or girl should be left alone to take dangerous abortion drugs or be put at risk of coercion by abusers who can easily obtain them online. This is not hypothetical. Just last week, we learned of an Ohio man who ordered abortion drugs online and force-fed them to his pregnant girlfriend against her will. She was hospitalized, and her baby died.

“Nearly a year into the second Trump administration, FDA policy still allows abortion drugs to be sent through the mail without even confirming that the recipient is a pregnant woman, purchased by abusers who use it to force abortion even if a mother has said NO. Every day the FDA allows Joe Biden’s radical COVID-era abortion drug policy to stand, more unborn children die and more women end up in the ER. Abortion by mail, with no ultrasound, no in-person evaluation, and no accountability, endangers women and empowers abusers.”
