Canadians Can Get Late-Term Abortions for Any Reason

Political pro-life organization RightNow released the third in a series of videos exposing how easy it is to obtain a late-term abortion in Canada, for no medical reason, and calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney and Parliament to pass legislation legally restricting late-term abortion in Canada.

“Canadians are often told that late-term abortions never happen in Canada and if they do, they are for extreme medical reasons, such as the life of the mother,” said Alissa Golob, Co-Founder and Executive Director of RightNow. “Yet, as you will see in these videos, I was told numerous times that attaining a late-term abortion in Canada is relatively easy, it is legal, and that I did not need a reason, medical or otherwise, regarding myself or my pregnancy.”

“During this time of strained relations between Canada and the United States, and at a time of fiscal and economic hardship across the country, the BC Women’s Hospital has confirmed that the Canadian government is paying for late-term abortions in the United States, at the cost of Canadian taxpayers,” said Scott Hayward, Co-Founder and President of RightNow.

“On top of that, according to the Canada Revenue Agency, the National Abortion Federation (now operating as Abortion Care Canada) has received over $2-million in federal taxpayer money in the last five years”, said Hayward, “I am sure Canadians would like to know how much of this money has been used to fund the travel and accommodations of Canadian women who are being sent to a different country to get tax-payer funded abortions at for-profit abortion clinics.”

“It’s also alarming that the abortion clinic counsellor was defining late-term abortion in Canada as a “stillbirth”, which calls into question the validity of the current statistics around late-term abortions in Canada”, said Golob. 

“We call on Parliament to ensure public policy reflects public opinion, and restrict the practice of late-term abortion in Canada, and to stop funding it in other countries”, said Hayward.
