President Trump issued Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro a stern ultimatum amid escalating tensions — resign and leave, or else — according to a bombshell report.
During a phone call between the two leaders, Maduro allegedly insisted that he be allowed to keep control of Venezuela’s military in exchange for paving the way for free elections, The Miami Herald reported, citing sources.
He also reportedly sought global amnesty for all of his alleged crimes.
Trump’s response was immediate, according to the report — rejecting both demands and delivering a blunt message: Leave now or else.
The talks quickly deteriorated, and political fallout in the U.S. began to mount.
US Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) warned on Fox News Sunday that the ongoing conflict is hitting Americans hard — primarily through narcotics trafficked from Venezuela.
“We have a war that’s coming through fentanyl, through opioids, through cocaine,” McCormick said, referring to the drug flow that Trump blames Maduro for and is trying to stop.
“It killed 100,000 Americans last year. That’s twice the number of people that died in eight years of Vietnam — 4,000 Pennsylvanians.”

Following the failed call, Trump announced that the U.S. was closing the airspace around Venezuela. Meanwhile, the USS Gerald F. Ford — America’s largest warship — and a Marine expeditionary unit capable of amphibious invasion — are positioned offshore.
Trump also warned over the weekend that military operations inside Venezuela could begin “very soon.”
On Sunday, Trump confirmed to reporters that he had spoken with Maduro recently, adding only: “I wouldn’t say it went well or badly.”
The tense phone exchange reportedly took place late in the week of Nov. 16, just days after Trump publicly said he was open to talking with the dictator.
