Will Leo revisit Fulton J. Sheen’s path to sainthood?

Some cases for sainthood move ahead with great speed, like that of St. Carlo Acutis, who was made Venerable in 2015 and canonized earlier this year. Others have experienced unorthodox setbacks, such as the cause of Venerable Fulton J. Sheen, whose cause for canonization was begun in 2002. Sheen’s beatification had been scheduled for December 21, 2019, in Peoria, Illinois, before it was mysteriously postponed, a move that was both unusual and scandalous, given the stage of the cause. There is hope that Pope Leo might have a variety of reasons to be aware of and interested in rectifying the situation, not least that he and Sheen were born in Illinois.
