Sure, Bennie. Sure.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) scrambled to clean up his remarks Friday after referring to the shooting of two West Virginia National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C., as an “unfortunate accident” during a contentious House hearing the day before.
Appearing on CNN News Central, Thompson was pressed by co-host Kate Bolduan on whether he stood by his description of the deadly attack.
“Oh, absolutely not,” Thompson said, insisting he had misspoken.
“And obviously, let me be clear, I was moving toward the discussion that [Kristi Noem] could not blame Joe Biden on the situation because she approved this person’s asylum application and that’s where we were headed and so the issue is…”
Bolduan cut him off mid-answer, seeking clarity.
“You’re saying you misspoke?” she asked.
“Oh, absolutely. Absolutely,” Thompson replied.
