Already in trouble with MAGA backers because of putative plans to invade Venezuela, President Donald Trump further alienated those supporters today, including top Republicans on Capitol Hill, with a cruel, inappropriate comment about the murder of far-left Democrat and Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.
Authorities found the couple dead on Sunday, with their throats slashed. Cops quickly arrested their drug-deranged son, Nick, who was given to violent rampages.
President Trump commented on the awful crime on Truth Social today, falsely claiming that Reiner was likely murdered because of his Trump Derangement Syndrome. Top Trump supporters roundly condemned the nasty, insensitive post.
To his credit, though Reiner was indeed a top hate-Trumper, when Charlie Kirk was murdered on September 10, the All in the Family star didn’t join deranged, far-left Kirk haters and celebrate the crime.

The Murders
Los Angeles cops responded to Reiner’s home at 3:40 p.m. yesterday, the department reported on X. Sources told People magazine that the Reiners’ daughter, Romy, found the pair.
“Calls about the tragedy first came into the Los Angeles Fire Department at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14. First responders arriving at the home said they found a man and woman dead — and the victims were later identified as Rob and Michele,” the magazine reported.

The Daily Beast reported that the murderer slit the Reiners’ throats, and that their son, “Nick, in a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, spoke about his long struggle with drug addiction, which ultimately led to him being homeless at one time.”
As well, the website noted, “Nick revealed on a 2018 podcast that his drug-induced rampages were so violent, he was once ‘up for days on end’ and destroyed his father’s guest house — punching a TV, a lamp, and more.”
Nick told the Dopey podcast that “everything in the guest house got wrecked.”
Before the murders, the 32-year-old hotly argued with his parents at a party hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, TMZ reported:
At the party, Rob and Nick got into a “very loud argument,” loud enough for many others to hear … Reiner family sources tell TMZ. We’re told Rob and Michele then left the party. We do not know if Nick left as well. …
Our family sources add [that] Michele had been anguishing to friends over the last few months that she and Rob were at their wits’ end over Nick’s mental illness and alleged substance abuse issues, and did not know what to do with their son Nick … saying, “We’ve tried everything.”
Apparently everything they tried wasn’t enough, if, as police allege, Nick Reiner murdered his 78-year-old father and 68-year-old mother.
Trump’s Post & Backers
Trump was unfazed.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood,” Trump wrote:
Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!

Some Trump supporters backed the post.
“I don’t care what Trump said about Rob Reiner and I don’t care about Rob Reiner.” I Am Leah wrote on X:
Democrats celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and created this environment. Stop thinking that “being the bigger person” gets you somewhere with these people.
Wrote agitator Laura Loomer:
Rob Reiner was a loser.
Naturally, his son was also a loser, and he got addicted to drugs and allegedly murdered his parents.
Looks like Rob should’ve spent more time parenting & less time spreading Russia conspiracy hoaxes about President Trump.
I stand with President Trump.
Other Reaction
Other longtime Trump supporters were aghast.
“This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies,” wrote outgoing GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, whom Trump attacked as “Marjorie Traitor Brown” because she defeated him on the Epstein files issue:
Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues. It’s incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy especially when it ends in murder.
Wrote GOP Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, whom Trump is trying to unseat:
Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the VP, and White House staff will just ignore it because they’re afraid? I challenge anyone to defend it.
“This statement is wrong,” wrote GOP Representative Mike Lawler of New York:
Regardless of one’s political views, no one should be subjected to violence, let alone at the hands of their own son. It’s a horrible tragedy that should engender sympathy and compassion from everyone in our country, period.
Former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis was equally aghast:
A man and his wife were murdered last night. This is NOT the appropriate response.
The Right uniformly condemned political and celebratory responses to Charlie Kirk’s death. This is a horrible example from Trump (and surprising considering the two attempts on his own life) and should be condemned by everyone with any decency.
Truth Social users were upset as well.
“I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS POST!” one wrote. “Highly inappropriate, and it puts us in their box. Tacky and tasteless.”
Terrible response to this tragedy. Unbecoming of the Office of the President. I voted for you three times but this is beyond the pale.
“I love you but this is seriously distasteful,” wrote a third, while another wrote, “I am ashamed that you posted that.”
Another user asked Trump to remove the post.
Reiner on Kirk
When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, Reiner did not join the far-left pro-murder chorus.
Speaking to podcaster Piers Morgan for his Uncensored program, Reiner said he reacted to the deadly shooting of the Turning Point USA chieftain with “horror, absolute horror.”
“I unfortunately saw the video of it and it’s beyond belief what happened to him, and that should never happen to anybody,” the Stand by Me director said:
I don’t care what your political beliefs are, that’s not acceptable, that’s not a solution to solving problems.
