Pro-Life Woman Arrested at Planned Parenthood for Handing Out Brochures

A pro-life activist was arrested while distributing pregnancy resource pamphlets on a public sidewalk outside a Planned Parenthood abortion center in San Francisco.

The arrested is being called a violation of First Amendment rights of pro-life Americans to protest abortion or help women find alternatives.

Anastasia Rogers, an organizer with the pro-life group Survivors San Francisco, was handcuffed and taken into custody Thursday after a security guard at the abortion giant alleged “threatening language” in an Instagram post she made about her sidewalk outreach, Pro-Life San Francisco said in a statement.

Officers also cited a prior warrant related to the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, according to Survivors.

Rogers was booked and held pending arraignment but was released from jail around 7 p.m. that evening, Pro-Life San Francisco said Friday.

“Yesterday, I was arrested for my pro life work at Planned Parenthood, specifically for social media content made at the sidewalk,” Rogers said in a statement shared by Pro-Life San Francisco.

“Despite never breaking any laws during my time at the San Francisco Planned Parenthood, they’re using laws, as expected, to persecute people like me using false claims of ‘intimidation’ despite knowing I can’t intimidate a fly.”

She added: “Yesterday was a very long and unexpected day and I still have a migraine as typing this however there are babies who die every day because of Planned Parenthood and we will not be intimidated into backing down.”

Pro-Life San Francisco described the arrest as “exactly the kind of legislative abuse we warned about when AB 1356 was being debated in 2021—a dangerous expansion of the California FACE Act signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom.”

The group noted that pro-choice state Sen. Bob Wieckowski and the American Civil Liberties Union had warned the law was poorly written. Survivors said Rogers was not obstructing access, making threats or violating the law, and that the arrest stemmed from a “false allegation” by the on-duty security guard.

The group accused Planned Parenthood of “actively working to target and silence Survivors activists through false accusations and legal intimidation.”

Rogers has been arrested previously in connection with pro-life activism. In 2023, she and another activist were detained while distributing literature outside Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco, and also kills babies in abortions, according to Pro-Life San Francisco.
