The ghoulish crowd that celebrates abortion without limits—and good riddance, they say—more often than not will flatly tell us, yup, abortion throughout all nine of months of pregnancy and don’t you dare say there needs to be a “reason,” let alone a “justification.” When Democrats, a key component of the Abortion Industrial Complex, say, “I loved my abortion. I am pro-abortion,” they aren’t kidding.
To accuse them of what they are transparently guilty of —being soft on passive infanticide—they say
Allowing abortion survivors to die unattended off in a corner is somewhere doesn’t happen.
Or if it does it’s so rare as not to be worth talking about.
Or (where have we heard this before?) what to do is a decision between a “physician and a woman.”
Etc., etc. etc.
Those at ease with slaughtering huge unborn babies sometimes get caught in the issue of viability but naturally wiggle their way out of it. I give you—gladly—the authors of the website Abortion, Every Day.

The subject of their skein is Pennsylvania’s HB 1957 which just passed the House. They argue (a) pro-lifers are lying when they say it allows abortion “up to and including the moment of birth” and; (b) pro-choicers are stupid to “support restrictions after fetal ‘viability’—even though it’s not a real medical standard—in hopes of insulating themselves from attacks about abortion ‘up until birth.’ But it never works, and conservatives say that sh-t anyway!”
“Viability” is “not a real medical standard” is part of the two-step around limitation on abortion at any stage. Take the authors of HB 1957 and how they finagle this “imaginary” marker.
First, what if it does exist, does viability make any difference?
NOTWITHSTANDING SUBSECTION (A), THE COMMONWEALTH MAY REGULATE THE PROVISION OF ABORTION CARE AFTER FETAL VIABILITY, EXCEPT THAT IN NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHALL THE COMMONWEALTH PROHIBIT AN ABORTION THAT, IN THE PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT OF AN ATTENDING HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL, IS MEDICALLY INDICATED TO PROTECT THE LIFE OR PHYSICAL OR MENTAL HEALTH OF THE PREGNANT INDIVIDUAL.
“Medically indicated” by the abortionist” to “protect the life or physical or mental health of the pregnant individual.”
Carte blanche. No limitations.
Immediately following this
(C) AS USED IN THIS SECTION, THE TERM “FETAL VIABILITY”
MEANS THE POINT IN PREGNANCY WHEN, IN THE PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT OF AN ATTENDING HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL AND BASED ON THE PARTICULAR FACTS OF THE CASE, THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT LIKELIHOOD OF THE FETUS’S SUSTAINED SURVIVAL OUTSIDE THE UTERUS WITHOUT THE APPLICATION OF EXTRAORDINARY MEDICAL MEASURES.
The kid’s got to have a “significant likelihood” (in the judgment of the abortionist) of “sustained survival outside the uterus” (in the judgment of the abortionist) “without the application of extraordinary medical measures” (also in the judgment of the abortionist). Conclusion?
Here’s what I wrote back in June (Kass, Choo, and Rodriguez were the authors of “Understanding the influence of abortion on 2024 US elections”):
I don’t expect the abortion lobby to be running over with concern for unborn babies. Mercy is not their strong suit.
Why would I expect kindness and generosity when the child literally does not exist, or if they reluctantly concede that there is something there, she or he is not a human being but—what? —a mass of cells.
“Abortion bans do not occur in a vacuum,” Kass, Choo, and Rodriguez conclude bitterly. They are the product of the usual litany of villains—an “anti-democratic,” “far right” “powerful minority.”
I beg to differ. “Abortion bans”—protection for the littlest American—represents the very imperfect triumph of the greatest social justice movement of our day. I, for one, am proud to counted as a member.
