President Donald Trump dropped a bombshell Monday: the U.S. “hit” a spot in Venezuela tied to drug boats — the first known land action there since Washington launched its pressure campaign against Nicolas Maduro’s government.
“There was a major explosion in the dock area where they load the boats up with drugs,” Trump said.
“We hit all the boats, and now we hit the area … it’s the implementation area. That’s where they implement, and that is no longer around.”
But Trump didn’t spell out exactly what was struck — or which arm of the U.S. government pulled the trigger.
Asked if the CIA carried out the attack, Trump turned coy — and confident.
“I don’t want to say that. I know exactly who it was but I don’t want to say who it was.”
CNN, citing sources, reported Monday that the CIA carried out a drone strike earlier this month on a port facility on Venezuela’s coast.
The report said the strike targeted a remote dock the U.S. believed was being used by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to store drugs and move them onto boats for onward shipping.
Trump has previously said he authorized the CIA to carry out covert operations in Venezuela.
“In a HUGE FAFO moment, President Trump confirms there was a ‘MAJOR EXPLOSION’ in Venezuela where they ‘load the boats up with drugs,’” Eric Daugherty posted on X. “Maduro is FINDING OUT NOW.”
