Kristi Noem didn’t tiptoe into CNN. She kicked the door in.
The Secretary of Homeland Security got into a fiery clash with CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Sunday while defending ICE’s fatal shooting of Renee Good, telling the host he can’t “change the facts” just because he doesn’t “like them.”
Tapper hammered Noem over her quick conclusions — including labeling Good a “domestic terrorist” and defending ICE officer Jonathan Ross within hours of the shooting.
Noem wasn’t budging.
“Everything that I’ve said has been proven to be factual,” Noem shot back on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday. “[I] decided that the department and the people of this country deserve to know the truth of the situation of what has unfolded in Minneapolis.”
Tapper then pressed her on her initial reaction to the shooting last Wednesday, when she claimed ICE officers “were attempting to push out their vehicle, and a woman attacked them and those surrounding them and attempted to run them over.”
“That’s not what happened,” Tapper insisted — later suggesting his real gripe was the idea that Good attacked the agents.
“It absolutely is what happened,” Noem fired back. “[She] blocked the road for a long time and was yelling at them and impeding a federal law enforcement operation.”
Noem said Ross later received treatment at a nearby hospital for being “hit by the vehicle” before being released.
Tapper kept drilling: how could she be sure Good wasn’t just trying to flee — not ram anyone?
Noem’s answer: the car was the weapon.
“The facts of the situation are that the vehicle was weaponized, and it attacked the law enforcement officer,” she said. “He defended himself, and he defended those individuals around him.”
“When there is something that is weaponized to use against the public and law enforcement, that is an act of domestic terrorism,” she added. “You don’t get to change the facts just because you don’t like them.”
She also pointed to video she says backs her account.
“You see how quickly the situation unfolded, how the officer was in front of the vehicle when she sped off,” Noem stressed. “How she ran into him. And how he had to take quick action based on his training to defend himself and his colleagues.
“That’s very clear and factual from the videos that you can see, it’s nobody’s interpretation.”
Noem also blasted Tapper for not going after Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for their dangerous rhetoric.
“I haven’t heard you say ONCE what a DISSERVICE it’s done for Mayor FREY to get up and tell ICE ‘get the F out!’ Or AOC to call this officer a M*RDERER. CALL THEM OUT, Jake! Spend as much time calling them out.”

You don’t get to change the facts because you don’t like them. What happened in Minneapolis was an act of domestic terrorism.
Acts of domestic terrorism like this should be condemned by every politician and elected official. It shouldn’t be hard or remotely controversial. pic.twitter.com/AmZLCyRiMo— Secretary Kristi Noem (@Sec_Noem) January 11, 2026
This domestic terror attack in Minneapolis was the direct consequence of sanctuary politicians, like Tim Walz and Jacob Frey, who constantly demonize and vilify our brave officers.
