Minnesota’s corporate heavyweights just stepped off the sidelines — and they’re demanding an “immediate de-escalation” after the fatal shooting of Alex Jeffrey Pretti by federal agents sent Minneapolis into a political and public crisis.
An open letter released by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and signed by more than 60 chief executives — including top leaders from Target, Best Buy, 3M, General Mills, Medtronic, UnitedHealth Group and every major Minnesota professional sports franchise — warned the turmoil is spiraling.
The group said the state has already suffered “widespread disruption and tragic loss of life,” and warned the ongoing tension is threatening communities, workers, and the broader economy.
“With yesterday’s tragic news, we are calling for an immediate de-escalation of tensions and for state, local and federal officials to work together to find real solutions,” the letter said.
And in a not-so-subtle message to the political class, the Chamber acknowledged weeks of private effort — but made clear it wasn’t cutting it anymore.
“For the past several weeks, representatives of Minnesota’s business community have been working every day behind the scenes with federal, state, and local officials to advance real solutions,” the letter said.
“There are ways for us to come together to foster progress.”
The executives urged peace and cooperation so “families, businesses, our employees, and communities across Minnesota” can get back to building “a bright and prosperous future.”
