The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Custody of the Holy Land have announced that works are set to begin restoring the “cradle” of Christianity – the place where Jesus was born in Bethlehem. This is the first time restoration has been undertaken in 600 years. The work will be carried out by an Italian company from Prato, which recently restored the Basilica of the Nativity. The choice is based on the need to ensure continuity of method, craftsmanship, and artistic sensitivity toward a site of unparalleled sacred value.
