The Fresh Fruit You Bought Is Finally Ripe — UPDATE: Too Late, It’s Rotten

TUSCON, AZ — Local mom Ashley Marsten announced that she was glad to see the fruit she bought at the store earlier this week was finally ripe and ready to eat, and… oh wait… it’s rotten.

“That pineapple looks so good! I can’t wait to cut it up for the kids when they get home from school. They’re going to be so excited,” Madsen said. “Oh, wait. While I was talking, it went bad. Dang it! Every time.”

Marsten expressed frustration at the fact that every time she buys fruit, it goes bad as soon as she thinks it’s ready to eat.

“We spend so much money on food these days, and I want my kids to eat fresh fruits and veggies, but it’s so much work to keep a running schedule in my head of what is ready to eat and what might be slightly over the line,” Marsten said. “Oh, look. The avocados are mushy. I’ve been saving those for two weeks. They weren’t ripe enough yesterday.”

Marsten’s husband, Trevor, noted that in the time it took him to think about eating one of those yummy-looking yellow bananas over there, the banana had turned black and was now inedible.

“It’s crazy how that happens,” he said. “But I refuse to eat a green banana.”

At publishing time, the Marstens had expressed concern that the loaf of bread they bought three months ago still looked fresh and ready to eat.
