CUBA NEXT? Trump Says Rubio Will Handle Crisis On Communist Island [WATCH]

President Donald Trump said Friday that Cuba’s communist government is nearing collapse and revealed he plans to send Secretary of State Marco Rubio to deal with the escalating crisis on the Caribbean island.

Trump made the comments during a phone interview with CNN host Dana Bash, discussing both the war with Iran and mounting instability in Cuba.

“Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon,” Trump told Bash, adding that the United States has “plenty of time, but Cuba is ready.”

Bash said the president indicated he would soon “put Marco over there,” suggesting Rubio will take the lead role in Washington’s response to the unfolding crisis.

Rubio — whose parents fled Cuba before Fidel Castro’s communist takeover — has long been one of Washington’s most outspoken critics of the Cuban regime and has repeatedly voiced support for democratic change on the island.

Cuba is currently facing one of the worst economic crises in its modern history, with soaring inflation, severe fuel shortages and deteriorating infrastructure fueling growing instability.

The situation worsened dramatically after the United States cut off Venezuela’s oil shipments to the island earlier this year, depriving Havana of its primary source of fuel and triggering widespread power outages and shortages.

Trump has suggested that Washington’s economic pressure played a major role in pushing the Cuban government toward collapse.

“They want to make a deal so badly,” Trump said in the interview, pointing to the economic pressure facing Havana.
