A leading Virginia pro-life organization is warning voters that a Democratic-backed redistricting amendment on the April 21 ballot would eliminate four pro-life congressional seats, handing near-total control of the state’s U.S. House delegation to radical abortion activists.
The Virginia Society for Human Life is urging Virginians to vote “no” on the measure, calling it a deceptive attempt by the pro-abortion Democrat majority in the General Assembly to override a 2020 voter-approved bipartisan redistricting commission.
“Stop the Redistricting Amendment from stealing our pro-life seats in Congress! Early Voting Is Underway; Vote NO!” the group said in a statement.
Early voting is underway at local registrars’ offices through April 18, with some localities offering additional sites. Voters who go to the polls on Election Day, April 21, may cast ballots from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at their regular polling places.

Virginia currently holds a 6-5 Democratic majority in its 11-member U.S. House delegation. All five Republican members are pro-life and consistently vote to protect unborn life in Washington, while none of the Democrats hold pro-life positions.
The group argues that passage of the amendment would allow Democrats in the legislature to draw new congressional maps that would wipe out four of those five pro-life seats, potentially leaving Virginia with just one pro-life voice in Congress and shifting the state toward a 10-1 Democrat advantage.
“Virginians had already decided by a sweeping majority in a 2020 vote to create a bi-partisan Commission to establish Congressional lines,” the Virginia Society for Human Life statement said. “The pro-abortion Democrat majority has forced this ballot question on the people of Virginia despite that decision.”
“If the deceptively-written ballot question passes on April 21st, the new maps, drawn by pro-abortion Democrats in the General Assembly, will eliminate four of our pro-life seats,” the group added. “We must not allow this to happen. We must vote NO and tell our friends to do the same.”
A recent Heritage Action poll found strong opposition to partisan map-drawing. It showed that 74% of Virginia voters prefer congressional maps drawn by the state’s constitutionally-mandated bipartisan redistricting commission rather than partisan-made maps.
Additionally, 76% agreed that gerrymandering should not be permitted, and 61% said maps should not disproportionately favor one political party over another.
The pro-life group warned that the change would not be temporary, nor is it aimed at fairness. Instead, it described the effort as a dangerous attempt to make Virginia like New York or Massachusetts, where political gerrymandering has prevented the election of any pro-life member of Congress for decades.
“Don’t pass this vote by! We have less than a month. Go vote today. Vote Early and let’s stop this train wreck. Pro-life votes can make the difference!” the group said.
