A, er, “friend” recently purchased these two used items and let me photograph them.
The top firearm is a classic Colt Detective Special, chambered in .32 New Police (Colt New Police is the same caliber as the .32 S&W Long, but Colt wasn’t about to put the name of its principal competitor on the barrel, so it simply came up with a more marketing-friendly term). I don’t believe this firearm has been produced since the early 90s (this particular one is from the 1960s or early 1970s).
And the second firearm is the classic S&W Model 36, a five-shot revolver chambered in .38 Special, introduced in 1950 as the Chiefs Special. These are still manufactured as part of S&W’s classic line, but production runs are irregular, and the new ones cost more than half again as much as this pristine pre-owned gun.
