Trump warns Iran to abandon nuclear ambitions as conflict passes two-month mark

President Donald Trump issued a blunt warning early Wednesday, telling Iran’s leadership they had “better get smart soon” and agree to abandon their nuclear ambitions as the standoff between Washington and Tehran drags on.

“Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social.

The message was accompanied by a stylized AI image of the president with the message “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!”

The conflict — now past the two-month mark — continues to center on Iran’s nuclear program and control of key maritime routes, including the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. officials have made clear that Tehran’s nuclear ambitions are the core issue driving the confrontation.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio laid out that position in stark terms.

“Suffice it to say that the nuclear question is the reason why we’re in this in the first place,” Rubio said in a recent interview.

He warned that Iran’s broader regional posture — including support for militant groups — raises the stakes even further if paired with nuclear capability.

“That’s why they’re with Hezbollah in Lebanon. That’s why they’ve supported Hamas. That’s how they’ve supported militias in Iraq,” Rubio said. “They don’t just seek to dominate Iran. They seek to dominate the region. And imagine that with a nuclear weapon.”
