The Iran war moves front and center in Washington on Tuesday, with Marco Rubio stepping into the White House briefing room for the first time as a stand-in for Karoline Leavitt, who has begun her maternity leave.

Rubio’s debut behind the podium comes at a volatile moment overseas, as the U.S. and Iran exchanged fire Monday while the Trump administration launched “Project Freedom,” an operation aimed at escorting commercial vessels through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
