Acting FDA Commissioner Kyle Diamantas “Cares Deeply About the Pro-Life Cause”

When news surfaced that Interim Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Kyle Diamantas would be replacing Marty Makary, who resigned yesterday, pro-life advocates were concerned.

Makary had ignored how the abortion pill has killed millions of babies and injured thousands of women – potentially slow-walking a study meant to limit or prohibit its use.

Also, Diamantas reportedly worked on a case for a Florida branch of the Planned Parenthood abortion business and his name appears as an attorney of record for the abortion company on federal court papers.

But now, pro-life advoate Lila Rose of LifeAction provides important background and clarification and says Diamantas “cares deeply about the pro-life cause.”

Rose released the following comment after a phone call with Diamantas on Wednesday:

“In our conversation, Kyle told me he regrets work he performed as an outside attorney for Planned Parenthood in Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando v. MMB Properties. He shared that he was assigned to the case by his law firm, performed work on it, and ultimately regretted his involvement because of his moral opposition to abortion. He then asked his superiors to remove him from the case. He said that he is pro-life and cares deeply about the pro-life cause.

I also raised the urgent crisis of the abortion pill. Nearly 11% of women who take mifepristone experience serious adverse events, and the abortion pill has killed millions of American babies. Diamantas told me that reviewing the abortion pill is a top priority for him and the administration.

We and millions of Americans across the nation who value the right to life expect the FDA to take serious action to protect mothers and their preborn children.”

Previously, March for Life President Jennie Bradley Lichter, in a new post on X, also says Diamantas is already alleviating those concerns.

First, Lichter says Diamantas reached out to pro-life leaders within hours of assuming his new role, signaling an early priority on pro-life issues and the regulation of the abortion pill mifepristone.

Lichter said she had a positive conversation with Diamantas on Tuesday night.

“Had a great convo last night with Kyle Diamantas, the new acting FDA Commissioner,” Lichter wrote. “In other words, within hours of being handed this big new job, he was on the phone with pro-life leaders — which is an encouraging sign of where his priorities lie.”

“After talking w him I’m optimistic that the cause of Life will get a full and fair hearing at the FDA, incl real movement on the mifepristone safety study,” she added.

Lichter said she looks forward to working with the FDA “to make sure abortion drug companies can’t continue to lie to women about their drugs that are NOT ‘safer than Tylenol’ and that abusive men are stopped from ordering these dangerous drugs on the internet and force-feeding them to pregnant women.”

Lichter also commented on reports that, more than a decade ago while a junior associate at a law firm, Diamantas had been listed as counsel for a Planned Parenthood affiliate in a 2017 Florida Supreme Court case.

Lichter addressed those concerns directly.

“It’s true that Diamantas was on a case team representing a Planned Parenthood affiliate in FL when he was a junior associate,” she wrote. “My understanding is that when he was initially put on the case he felt he couldn’t say no — but he ultimately asked to be removed, for conscience reasons. … This was a decade or more ago and has nothing to do with the life-related issues currently before the FDA. In my judgment it is not a reason for concern about his approach in his new job.”

That Lichter, a respected pro-life leader, would feel those concerns are assuaged goes a long way towards trusting that Diamantas could successfully deal with the abortion pill in a way that will save babies and protect women.
