A man turned to me at church and said, “Thank you for the work you do. It’s so important.”
I smiled and offered gracious thanks to him for recognizing the significance of pro-life work.
I did not grow up thinking I would become a pro-life advocate. I had all sorts of professional dreams, from being an actress on the Broadway stage to serving as a reporter outside the Kremlin.
Pro-life advocacy never went through my mind. That is, until I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

My intellectual awakening led to a deep desire to work on behalf of the most vulnerable–particularly unborn babies. I couldn’t shake the image of them struggling for life, crying that silent scream.
I could not abandon them.
I thought I would work in the pro-life movement until Roe v. Wade was overturned. That legal feat took longer than I had anticipated.
And when it happened–miracle though it was–I realized that my work had just begun.
My pastor recently said to me, “Your work will never end.” I believe there is truth in that, because there will always be looming threats against innocent human life.
A disgruntled individual recently sent me a letter telling me I should walk away from the pro-life movement. That sort of bullying just makes me all the more insistent on working to save innocent human lives.
There is no pain I could experience worse than the anguish endured by babies facing late-term abortions.
And for every insult I receive, I tend to be thanked by those who valiantly wish for an abortion-free world.
It is a dream that is possible, for those who believe.
