A Woodlands, Texas man, accused of giving a pregnant woman an abortion drug without her knowledge and causing a miscarriage, now faces even more serious charges.
“On Wednesday, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced two upgraded felony charges in a case ABC13 first reported in February,” according to Sarah Al-Shaikh of ABC 13.
“Jon Rueben Demeter, 25, was first charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His charge has now been upgraded to the performance of an abortion and injury to a child.” If convicted, Demeter faces a punishment of five years to life in prison on each count.

The woman, who was 14 weeks pregnant, lost her baby.
“Let me be absolutely clear, in Montgomery County, if you take a life, you will be held accountable,” Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said according to published accounts. “Presley Mae’s life was intentionally and tragically taken from her. She had 10 fingers and 10 toes and an entirely lifetime of possibilities ahead of her. That future was stolen before it had chance to begin.”
Demeter “covertly crushed that medication and mixed it in a water bottle with a liquid I.V. packet, and this was done with this specific intent to cause the death of the child,” Sheriff Doolittle explained.
“The unborn child’s mother and family members attended the news conference, with some wiping away tears as the charges were read, though none of them spoke publicly,” according to KHOU. “The baby would have been named Presley Mae.”
Demeter tried multiple times to convince her to undergo an abortion, even offering to pay for her to travel out of state, according to the victim. “An investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, with the assistance of the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office, found that Demeter had obtained abortion medication online and given it to the woman, officials said,” Catherine Dominguez reported. “They allege that Demeter covertly administered the medication with the intent to cause the death of the unborn child”
Background
On February 21, deputies went to a hospital in Woodland “after a report of a woman having a miscarriage under suspicious circumstances,” KHOU reported.
According to court documents, Demeter allegedly obtained abortion medication online, had it shipped through the mail, crushed the pills, mixed them into a Liquid IV drink mix, and administered it to the woman without her knowledge. Court records also allege Demeter told the woman the medication “worked well” on other women he had gotten pregnant.
The woman told investigators she began feeling ill shortly after and took herself to an urgent care facility before being rushed to a hospital. She subsequently lost the baby. Investigators say she later told them she believed Demeter had intentionally given her something to cause the miscarriage.
According to KHOU, Demeter “admitted to purchasing the abortion drug but told investigators he gave it away and did not administer it himself, according to authorities.”
