Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s administration is facing a fresh round of criticism after the city’s Office of LGBTQ+ Advancement promoted a “Trans Period Pride” event focused on menstrual equity and transgender experiences with menstruation.
The event, scheduled for June at the Boston Public Library’s Copley Branch, is being billed as a “consciousness-raising discussion on menstrual equity and the experiences of trans menstruators.”
A social media post promoting the gathering featured a pink tampon and blue menstrual pad alongside an invitation from advocacy groups MASS NOW and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition.

The event is supported by several organizations, including the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ+ Advancement, the Boston Alliance of LGBTQ+ Youth, MASS NOW and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition.
The city’s LGBTQ+ office says its mission is to develop policies, programming and resources for Boston’s LGBTQIA2S+ community.
But the event quickly drew attention online, where critics questioned both the concept and the city’s involvement.
“This cannot be real……,” one Instagram user wrote.
“Is this a joke?” another asked.
A third commenter added, “Yall have lost your minds.”
The controversy comes as Wu’s administration continues to face scrutiny from critics over city-backed LGBTQ initiatives.
