President Donald Trump is downplaying reports that Iran may be stepping away from negotiations with the United States, arguing that Washington has little reason to rush toward a deal.
Speaking with NBC News on Monday, Trump said he has not received any indication that Tehran has formally withdrawn from talks.
Instead, the president suggested that less communication may actually benefit the United States.

“I think we’ve been talking too much if you want to know the truth,” Trump said. “I think going silent would be very good, and that could be that could be for a long time.”
Trump’s comments come amid growing uncertainty over the future of negotiations aimed at securing a broader peace agreement and addressing tensions across the Middle East.
While some observers have worried that a breakdown in talks could increase the risk of military confrontation, Trump signaled that maintaining pressure does not necessarily require military escalation.
“It doesn’t mean we’re going to go and start dropping bombs all over there,” he said. “We’ll just go silent. We’ll keep the blockade. Blockade is a piece of steel.”
The president’s remarks reflect a strategy that has become increasingly familiar throughout his administration: applying economic and diplomatic pressure while keeping military options available but not immediately deploying them.
Trump also argued that time is not on Tehran’s side.
According to the president, Iran continues to suffer under the weight of economic sanctions and restrictions on trade, giving Washington leverage even if formal negotiations stall.
He said the Iranian regime is “losing a fortune” because of sanctions and the ongoing blockade.
Trump also posted the following on TRUTH Social early Monday morning:
Iran really wants to make a deal, and it will be a good one for the U.S.A. and those that are with us. But don’t the Dumocrats, and various seemingly unpatriotic Republicans, understand that it is MUCH tougher for me to properly do my job and negotiate, when political hacks keep negatively “chirping,” at levels never seen before, over and over again, that I should move faster, or move slower, or go to war, or not go to war, or whatever. Just sit back and relax, it will all work out well in the end – It always does!
