Women deserve real, qualified medical oversight and safety protections, especially when dangerous chemical abortion drugs are involved.
One abortion facility in Wichita, Aria Medical Clinic, has filed a lawsuit seeking to strike down Kansas law requiring physician involvement when prescribing abortion drugs.
The abortion business and an out-of-state nurse argue that nurses should be allowed to prescribe these drugs instead. Aria has admitted that it is more expensive for the facility to hire a doctor to prescribe chemical abortion drugs than to have an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) do so remotely.

Kansas law currently requires physician oversight as an important safeguard for women’s health and safety. The lawsuit is really about the abortion industry protecting its profits over protections for women.
The lawsuit was filed in the district court in Topeka last year, and a hearing has been scheduled for July 2027.
Recently, the Kansas Legislature passed a new law changing how the state nursing board is organized. Following passage of that law, lawyers for the board and Attorney General Kobach requested that any action in the case be delayed until the law is implemented.
Last Tuesday, May 26, the Topeka district judge agreed to put the case on hold temporarily.
Kansans for Life will keep monitoring this case and other abortion-related lawsuits and provide updates as needed.
