A doctor can only make good medical decisions when they have the full picture.
Unfortunately, Illinois lawmakers just passed legislation that moves us further away from that standard.
HB 5295 separates abortion-related records from a woman’s broader medical record, creating a system where healthcare providers do not have access to important information about a patient’s medical history.
This legislation moves Illinois in the opposite direction of good healthcare for women.

Separating abortion-related records from a woman’s broader medical history means that doctors will be making decisions without the complete picture, putting women at risk of receiving inappropriate or inadequate care.
Imagine a woman seeks emergency treatment after experiencing severe bleeding, infection, or other complications from a recent abortion. If the physicians treating her are unaware of that procedure because relevant records are hidden, they may not have the information needed to quickly identify the source of the problem and provide the best possible care.
The same activists who insist abortion is healthcare have now pushed legislation that makes healthcare less informed and less safe for women.
Governor Pritzker is expected to sign the bill into law, but our efforts to mitigate the damage of this bill are just beginning.
Every year, we reach thousands of Illinoisans through digital campaigns, community outreach, educational resources, events, and advocacy efforts that help people understand the real-world consequences of policies coming out of Springfield.
We want to educate women and healthcare workers about this law so that they won’t be blindsided into offering or receiving potentially harmful care.
Because of your support, we can continue educating families, equipping healthcare professionals, and helping Illinoisans stay informed about policies that impact women and children across our state.
Thank you for helping us be a voice for truth and life in a state that desperately needs both.
