Yesterday, the New Jersey Assembly passed A2218/S2260 by a vote of 55 to 23. Every Republican Assembly member present voted NO, joined by Democrat Asm. Schnall. Republican Asm.Sauickie was absent, and Asm. Schaer was present but did not vote. All remaining Democratic Assembly members voted YES.
The Senate voted on an earlier version of the bill on May 28th. Because the Assembly approved an amended version of the bill, it is expected to return to the Senate later today for concurrence. Once the Senate approves the amendments, the bill will then be sent to Governor Sherrill for her consideration.

Although this outcome was anticipated, it is no less significant. This legislation raises serious concerns about parental rights, interstate accountability, and legal protections for providers.
I want to sincerely thank everyone who contacted your legislators, shared our legislative alerts, and prayed for this effort. Your voice mattered. Because so many people spoke out, legislators were forced to confront important constitutional and public policy concerns, and the bill was amended several times during the legislative process. While those amendments did not resolve our objections, your advocacy ensured these issues received the scrutiny they deserved.
I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Asm. Brian Rumpf, Asw. Dawn Fantasia, Asm. John Azzariti, Asm. Mike Inganamort, Asm. Gregory Myhre, Asm. Greg McGuckin, Asm. Paul Kanitra, Asm. Erik Peterson, and Asm. Gerry Scharfenberger for their passionate defense of life and for speaking out against A2218/S2260. Their willingness to defend life, protect parental rights, and uphold accountability deserves our sincere gratitude.
Although Governor Sherrill is expected to sign A2218/S2260, she still needs to hear from us. Silence sends the wrong message. We must make it clear that New Jersey citizens oppose this dangerous legislation and expect their Governor to protect parental rights and reject this bill.
Please take a moment today to respectfully but firmly urge Governor Sherrill to veto A2218/S2260.
Email Governor Sherrill HERE. Be sure to select “Other” from the drop down menu before submitting your message.
Call the Governor’s Office: (609) 292-6000.
Regardless of the outcome, New Jersey Right to Life will continue to advocate for the protection of human life, defend the rights of parents, and hold our elected officials accountable.
Thank you for your faithful support, your prayers, and your willingness to speak out. Together, we will continue this important work.
