BIRMINGHAM, AL — A new technique for managing children was discovered this week, as local woman Sarah Bailey got her kids to behave by threatening them with a fun family road trip.
“We’re going to explore this beautiful country and stop and get fun souvenirs if you don’t be quiet right now!” Bailey reportedly told her children.
Her children, three girls and a boy between the ages of 7 and 15, abruptly stopped fighting over concerns that they would be stuck in the same car with each other for six hours at a time as they traveled a seemingly endless road in search of the world’s largest ball of twine or a rock formation that resembled comedian Dana Carvey.
They did not ignore her. There were no last-minute arguments or bargains. They fell in line immediately, stunning her husband of 15 years.
“It was incredible, I never would have thought of threatening them with a wholesome family bonding experience,” said David Bailey, the children’s father. “Honestly, it hurts a little that none of them want to go on a road trip, but hey, whatever works.”
According to Mrs. Bailey, threatening her kids with a road trip has become her new go-to. “I used to count to three or some such nonsense. That worked on the little ones, but it never works on teens,” she explained. “The house has gotten so much quieter, and I can really hear myself think, you know?”
At publishing time, Bailey had been seen packing the minivan for a road trip after the kids had been caught arguing.
