The Cuban delegation walked out of the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday as President Trump declared the communist regime a failed state and predicted it “will fall.”
“My administration is also seeking a fundamental change in the situation in Cuba,” Trump told world leaders, saying the government in Havana is under the “biggest pressure they’ve ever been under.”
“It’s an absolutely failed state,” Trump said. “It’s failing like never before, and it will fall.”

Then came the line that sent the message home:
“Communism will never be coming to America, but freedom will be coming to Cuba.”
The Cuban delegation responded by getting up and leaving the General Assembly hall during Trump’s remarks.
Trump has steadily increased pressure on Havana as part of a broader push against communist and authoritarian governments in the Western Hemisphere. The United States has maintained an economic embargo against Cuba for more than six decades.
Trump has also repeatedly called Cuba a failed nation and said earlier this year that his administration had “very good plans” for the island.
On Tuesday, he made the goal unmistakable from the U.N. podium: the communist government’s days, he said, are numbered.
