For decades now Democrats have operated with an air of moral superiority born largely of two things. Firstly, they were the party of the little guy – helping the helpless, feeding the poor and freeing the oppressed. Secondly they uncovered and investigated quite publicly “the greatest scandal in American political history” – Watergate. These pillars are currently crumbling under their feet, leaving them teetering.
We’ll start with the whole scandal thing. Watergate, you will recall, began with some Nixon “operatives” breaking into DNC headquarters in an effort to bug the place and pick up political intelligence. This lead to a cover-up in which the Nixon administration misused the power of government to its own political ends. Perhaps the worst of the cover-up was Nixon’s use of the FBI to put pressure, by means of investigation, on his opponents.
Well, here comes “Artic Frost.” This FBI operation was described by Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt as “100 time worse than Watergate.” Beth Brelje at The Federalist describes it this way, “… the FBI tried to tank President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign by using its authority to invasively gather data on some 430 Republican individuals and entities.” Four hundred and thirty…FOUR HUNDERD AND THIRTY! That number makes Nixon look like an amateur.
Sadly, the legacy media is treating this as old news in an equal and opposite reaction to how they sensationalized Watergate. But this ain’t then and they are not the sole source of information. Ignoring the story will not prevent the the death of Democratic moral superiority it represents.
As to being the party of the little guy – please. It’s Friday, the day I pay bills. This morning I find myself writing a check to a local restaurant my wife and I frequent owned by a former recipient of SNAP benefits. In gratitude for the benefits she once received, the owner is offering free meals to SNAP beneficiaries for the duration of the shutdown and my wife and I are donating to help her out. Allowing SNAP benefits to lapse reveals that the Democrats are not the party of the little guy, but the party of self-aggrandizement.
Oh sure, they are claiming the shutdown is how they are fighting for more benefits for the little guy, but they are doing so at the expense of some other little guys. They are picking and choosing which “little guy” gets their largesse and which do not. That does not sound like they are fighting for the little guy – rather it sounds like they are fighting for themselves. And another pillar under that air of moral superiority crumbles.
The radical left turn Democrats have taken of late has been camouflaged behind this morally superior facade, but as the facade crumbles just how radical their agenda has become is being exposed. The election before us next week, featuring candidates to the left of Lenin and others with murderous intent in their hearts, will be revelatory. Either Democrats will take note of the crumbling facade and takes steps to shore up the party with reason or they will not notice the rubble around them and continue down this destructive path to their doom.
Next week is going to be interesting.
