Charlotte stabbing suspect Marvina Butler-Hardy

The headline question was asked in the wake of this:

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is searching for the woman who stabbed a pregnant woman outside the Harris Teeter [grocery store].
It happened on Wednesday [March 18] around 11 a.m. in the Cotswold Village Shopping Center.
The 38-year-old pregnant woman told Channel 9 she was getting her toddler out of her car when the woman who pulled out of the space behind her stopped her car, got out, cursed at her, and attacked her with a knife.
“I was facing my toddler, getting him out of his seat, and thankfully turned around, and she was coming at me with a steak knife,” the victim, who asked not to be identified, said.
The woman was stabbed in the sternum, but she is okay. So is her unborn child. She tells Channel 9 she has never seen the woman who attacked her before and has no idea why this happened.
“I pushed and kicked and screamed, and thankfully I think that scared her off,” she said.

The suspect was arrested in Florida today:

Marvina Marie Hardy-Butler, of Waxhaw, has been arrested in Florida in connection with the stabbing of a pregnant woman in a Cotswold shopping center parking lot, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced on Monday afternoon.
The arrest comes two weeks after the initial attack was first reported.
Hardy is currently in custody in Flagler County, Florida, and awaiting extradition back to Mecklenburg County, where she will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury, and battery of an unborn child.
She has an extensive criminal history.

Gosh, what could they mean by “extensive criminal history”? How about 24 prior arrests? And this was what prompted the question:

What in the actual hell is happening in North Carolina?
I feel like every day I hear about another horrific crime that’s been committed either by a repeat offender an illegal alien

Readers will recall that Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr., who fatally stabbed 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on a light rail train in Charlotte, also had an extensive criminal history. It is natural that readers wonder why such leniency toward habitual offenders — a “revolving door” policy — has become standard practice in North Carolina. One word: DEMOCRATS.

Because North Carolina is a “swing” state that has shifted back and forth in presidential elections, and because it’s in the South, many Americans probably think of it as a moderate, and perhaps even conservative sort of state. The problem with that belief is that, first of all, Democrats have a pretty good record in statewide elections, having controlled the governor’s office for all but four years since 1993. Even though 10 of the state’s 14 members of the U.S. House of Representatives are Republicans, therefore, Democrats are much more influential in the state government than their congressional representation would suggest. Secondly, much of the crime in North Carolina — including both of these recent horrific stabbings — is concentrated in the urbanized “Triangle” region of the state, which includes Mecklenburg County (Charlotte), Wake County (Raleigh), Durham County and Orange County (Chapel Hill).

In the 2024 presidential election, Donald Trump carried North Carolina by a three-point margin, 51% to 48%, over Kamala Harris. However, Harris got 80% of the vote in Durham County, 75% in Orange County, 65% in Mecklenburg County and 62% in Wake County. In these four counties, Harris got a combined 989,332 votes (66%) to Trump’s 478,164 votes (32%). If you subtracted these four counties from the statewide totals, Trump would have won by a 17-point margin, 58% to 41%.

What you have, then, is a Democrat-dominated “blue” urban area plunked down in the middle of a conservative “red” state. And in the urban “Triangle” counties, the attitude toward crime looks a lot more like San Francisco or Chicago than it does the fictional “Mayberry.”

The grocery store where the pregnant woman was stabbed is in one of the “nice” parts of Charlotte, and the suspect is from Waxhaw in Union County, about 20 miles south of the grocery store, near the South Carolina state line. So you could be shopping in what seems like a perfectly safe neighborhood, and be attacked with a knife by a criminal maniac with 24 prior arrests who traveled 20 miles to choose you as her “random” victim. Nobody is safe, when Democrats are in charge.
