Dad Teaches Son Importance Of Doing Your Own Oil Changes So It Will Take Longer And Cost More

BLOOMINGTON, IL — Neighbors were impressed by local man Marcus Hardwick, who took the time to pass on generational knowledge to his son about how to change your car’s oil yourself, so it will take longer and cost more.

Learning to change a car’s oil yourself is an important skill to learn if you want to waste time and money, according to MotorTrend magazine, a sentiment Hardwick said he believes is important to pass on to his children.

“It builds character,” Hardwick said. “I don’t want my kids getting soft by paying a professional a modest fee when they can spend twice as much money messing it up on their own.”

Changing a car’s oil yourself can be a terrific cost-saving tool, sources said, but for Hardwick, it has traditionally cost more time and money than it was worth because he frequently uses the wrong oil, forgets to change the oil filter, or spills oil all over the garage floor. On one occasion, he forgot to tighten the oil drain plug and leaked fluid all over the street, forcing him to change his car’s oil again the very next day, witnesses said.

“You see, son, nothing worth doing is ever easy,” Hardwick carefully explained to his young son. “That’s why it’s important to learn how to do an oil change yourself as inefficiently as possible.”

He continued, “Time is money, so every minute you spend changing your own oil is money down the drain. And that’s not to mention all the extra money we’ll spend because we do it wrong and have to start over,” Hardwick cheerfully told his son. “Come on, it’ll be fun.”

At publishing time, Hardwick had mistakenly disconnected the brakes while showing his son how to change the car’s oil, and they totaled the vehicle on their way to Arby’s.
