Democrats Target Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers Because They Don’t do Abortions

Pregnancy centers that provide millions of dollars a year in free services for women, children, and families are standing up against the weaponization of government as the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments in First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, Inc. v. Platkin today.

The First Amendment case centers around pro-abortion New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin’s campaign of hostility against pregnancy centers over the fact that they do not perform abortions. Platkin and his office have attempted to force pregnancy centers to hand over private donor information, as well as coordinating with Planned Parenthood – America’s largest abortion business – to issue a so-called “consumer alert” targeting pregnancy centers with false and unsubstantiated accusations.

Since the leak of the draft Dobbs decision in 2022, nearly 100 pregnancy centers and pro-life groups have been attacked and vandalized.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:

“From AG Platkin to Elizabeth Warren to Kamala Harris, Democrats have waged a campaign of harassment towards pregnancy centers and seek ultimately to shut them down, proving they are not ‘pro-choice’ but merely pro-abortion. In a time of rising political violence, when 70% of abortion-related threats investigated by the FBI since Dobbs have been against pro-life groups, it’s not just hypocritical – it’s dangerous.

“Pregnancy centers are the beating heart of the pro-life movement. They’re heroes in our communities, providing the authentic help women need and want to choose life for their children, in contrast to the profit-driven abortion industry which just offers them deadly abortion drugs, increasingly without even an in-person visit to screen for coercion or abuse. Moms like Jessica attest that, not only are they deeply grateful for the chance to save their child’s life, but they form friendships that are still continuing years after. No wonder 83% of the public supports pregnancy centers, and their millions of clients are overwhelmingly satisfied. Pregnancy centers have every reason to stand proudly against the abortion lobby in defense of the women, children and families they serve. We’re honored to stand with them.”

Her PLAN Executive Director Autumn Christensen added:

“First Choice is fighting for all of us who offer support to vulnerable mothers and their children. They were targeted simply for providing compassionate, charitable help to women and children in need, a mission they have a right to fulfill without facing government intimidation. Charities helping moms in need, like the thousands on the Her PLAN directory, should be celebrated, not persecuted. Helping them both, mom and baby, is not controversial. It’s common sense.”

A new Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) analysis finds that 2,775 pregnancy centers across America provided over $452 million in total medical care, support and education services, and material goods in 2024 – seeing over 1 million new clients last year, with a 98% client satisfaction rate.

“Despite repeated pro-abortion attacks against pregnancy centers, the facts remain unchanged: women and families depend on the services of these centers. CLI’s newest report shows growing demand for pregnancy centers, strong client satisfaction, and life-changing support for those seeking hope, help and alternatives to abortion. Pregnancy centers walk alongside women, men and families to provide love, education and support so they can courageously choose life. That effort should be applauded, not undermined.”
