Fascinating Christmas – The Hugh Hewitt Show

Defending Christianity around Christmas has, unfortunately, become commonplace.  But defending it with military force is new.  Yesterday President Trump ordered airstrikes on ISIS targets in northern Nigeria where those same ISIS forces have been wiping out entire Christian villages.  Because everyone is still in a food coma the commentary has yet to begin to flow, but watch for it soon.

There will be cries of religious discrimination, Trump failing the “Christmas spirit” test, etc., etc., etc.  I have been claiming all week that it was a lousy news Christmas because the media, so obsessed with its Trump hatred, just kept pumping out stuff.  Yesterday – actual Christmas – was the first time I saw anything about the return of Christmas tourism to Israel outside of in the Israeli press, and that was on Fox.  It has grown ridiculous.  One has to wonder who is the actual humbug here.

I wish there was more to report on the Nigerian strikes but for now all we know is they happened and were requested by the Nigerian government.

But what I do find fascinating is that this comes at a time when Islamic migration into Europe and rising antisemitism there is making the place untenable for Jews.  There was a very ugly incident in Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris and 45% of Jews in Britain no longer feel welcome there.

There is common cause between Christians and Jews.  Both are being not merely shunned or ghettoized, but actually attacked. physically.  And shamefully people are siding with the attackers because out of some sense of “equity” or support for “Palestine” as an oppressed state.  Do we understand at all anymore what freedom and equality mean?  There is no justification for Christian genocide in Nigeria or the kind of treatment Jews are receiving, primarily at the hands of Islamic immigrants, in Europe.  None.

It is interesting that despite great blows to the oil market, it remained fairly steady in 2025, causing one commentator to wonder if oil’s “geopolitical premium” is gone to stay.  Islam’s global influence has been largely in oil production from Islamic states for decades now.  Much of what we are seeing is simple demographics.  Islam is outbreeding both Judaism and Christianity.  Further, the poor birth rates in Europe and increasingly the U.S. mandates the importation of labor and its going to come from places that are breeding at a health rate.  We are importing much of the hatred we are having to cope with.  But one must wonder if, as Islam’s oil-based influence fades, its militancy will grow?

One thing is certain, the world is changing.  In some ways for the better and in some ways not-so-much.  As the new year approaches, it is time to be on our toes.
