For Every Adoption Referral Planned Parenthood Makes, It Kills 143 Babies in Abortions

According to Planned Parenthood’s 2024-25 annual report, they performed a record-breaking 434,450 abortions in 2023-2024. A new Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) fact sheet calculates this is an 8% increase, over 32,000 abortions from the previous year and a 34% increase since 2014. Despite the large uptick in abortions, the number of patients increased by merely 0.5% over the previous year.

Planned Parenthood’s service data lags behind the rest of the information in the report—the 2024-25 report contains information on services provided in 2023-2024. Taxpayer funding is reported by Planned Parenthood’s affiliates, whose information is delayed compared to the national office and covers fiscal years ending in 2024, before Planned Parenthood was defunded of Medicaid dollars in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in 2025.

Key Points—Abortion and Non-Abortion Services

  • In 2023-24, 97% of the time, women seeking help related to their pregnancy at Planned Parenthood were sold an abortion rather than given prenatal care, provided care for a miscarriage, or helped to make an adoption plan.
  • Prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals accounted for only 1.7%, 0.6%, and 0.7% of these services respectively
  • For every adoption referral in 2023-24, Planned Parenthood performed 143 abortions.

Key Points—Financials

  • Planned Parenthood reported over $2.1 billion in income and nearly $2.5 billion in net assets.
  • Taxpayer funding in the form of government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements hit $832 million, nearly $2.3 million per day—an increase of $39.8 million from the previous report and representing 39% of Planned Parenthood’s overall revenue.
  • Planned Parenthood’s net loss of total revenue over total expenses is $29.3 million, the first time in recent years that expenses exceeded revenue.

Since 2014:

  • Total services went up 5%.
  • With changing practice guidelines, total cancer screening and prevention services have dropped by 43%, including declines of 55% for breast exams and 38% for pap tests.
  • Prenatal services went down 56%.
  • Contraceptive services went down 23%.
  • Taxpayer funding increased by 50%.

Tessa Cox, senior research associate at CLI, said:

“Yet again, abortions performed by Planned Parenthood hit a record high, demonstrating that abortion remains a top priority for the organization. Over the past decade, abortions, government funding, and total revenue soared, even as the number of clients served has declined and total services have stagnated. Women deserve better alternatives, which outnumber Planned Parenthood by 15 to 1 nationwide.”
