Gavin Newsom Will Spend $140 Million to Help Planned Parenthood Kill More Babies

California Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to help Planned Parenthood stay open so it can kill more babies in abortions.

Newsom announced a $140 million state funding infusion Tuesday to prop up Planned Parenthood amid federal defunding efforts, a move that is a direct subsidy for the abortion giant to continue ending unborn lives while it is shuttering what little non-abortion health care it does.

The cash lifeline, aimed at keeping 109 Planned Parenthood clinics operational, comes as the abortion organization grapples with a wave of closures triggered by President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,”which defunds the abortion company.

Pro-life leaders hailed the federal cuts for saving babies but Newsom, with his clear national political aspirations, is coming to the rescue of one of the biggest movers and shakers in the Democrat Party.

The Democrat governor’s pledge marks California as the fourth state — after Washington, Colorado and New Mexico — to redirect public dollars to offset the losses, with Oregon and New York weighing similar measures.

Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California President and CEO Jodi Hicks welcomed the aid, stating, “We’re incredibly grateful that we’ve found a way to get some funding out to our Planned Parenthood health centers so they can remain operating and continue services.”

Hicks added that federal cuts had an “outsized impact on California,” where 80% of the organization’s patients rely on Medi-Cal.

Yet beneath the rhetoric of comprehensive care lies a stark reality: Planned Parenthood performed 402,230 abortions nationwide in its 2023-2024 fiscal year, a gruesome number that has climbed even amid more pro-life protections for babies. In California alone, the group has closed non-abortion services at seven centers in Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana, Westminster, San Bernardino and Upland, effective Dec. 10, making it clear that Planned Parenthood cares more about abortion than helping women.
