In what might be the best in-your-face move from the Trump administration to date, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested an illegal alien who was working as a cop in a small village that is a suburb of a major city.
The village: Hanover Park, Illinois. The big city: Chicago. The governor of Illinois: far-left Democrat J.B. Pritzker, who thinks Land of Lincoln officials have the power to arrest federal agents performing their sworn duty — in this case, enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.
Thus did ICE turn the tables on Pritzker by arresting an illegal alien named Radule Bojovic, who should soon be winging his way back to Montenegro, where he belongs, sometime soon.
Unhappily, Illinois isn’t the only state that permits noncitizens to become cops.
The Arrest
ICE arrested Bojovic during Operation Midway Blitz, which targeted Chicago and has been the subject of major controversy, notably because Pritzker has repeatedly called ICE agents Nazis and threatened to arrest them.
Recently sworn in, officers fingered “Bojovic as a B-2 visitor visa overstay, who was required to leave the country by March 31, 2015. He illegally overstayed his visa by more than 10 years,” ICE reported:
Upon arrest, Bojovic provided his employee identification card, confirming he is a police officer with the Hanover Park Police Department. Bojovic also admitted that he had no weapons on his person because he’s only authorized to carry his firearm while on duty.
Hiring an illegal alien as a cop is something of an imprudent move, given that illegals are not allowed to possess firearms, as ICE’s removal operations chief Sam Olson said.
“This is the second known instance in recent months of a local police department hiring an illegal alien and unlawfully issuing him a firearm while on duty in violation of federal law,” Olson said:
It is alarming how local jurisdictions continue to disregard federal law to the detriment of their communities.
Asked Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesman Tricia McLaughlin, “what kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It’s a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm. A so-called law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law.”
DHS reported that village records confirm that the Pension Fund Board of Trustees OK’d hiring Bojovic in January 2025, giving him a whopping salary of $78,955.70, about $15,000 more than that of the average American.
“Additional records indicate his 2025 earnings cost taxpayers $205,707 including $9,276 for FICA/Medicare taxes,” DHS reported.
The village celebrated Bojovic’s hiring on its Facebook Page.
DHS chief Kristi Noem called sanctuary state Illinois “completely corrupt.”
“Radical sanctuary politicians have allowed criminal illegal aliens to infiltrate our school districts, communities, and even police departments,” she added.
Other Illegal-alien Cop States
Given the background vetting that incoming cops undergo, one would have to believe that village officials knew Bojovic was an illegal alien, yet hired him anyway.
Ignoring that, the Illinois statute that permits police departments to hire noncitizens says nothing about hiring illegal aliens. Or, as the politically correct argot goes, “undocumented migrants.”
As the Illinois Municipal League explains at its website, the statute
provides that an individual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law is authorized to apply for the position of police officer, subject to all requirements and limitations, other than citizenship, to which other applicants are subject.” [Emphasis added.]
Illegal aliens are not legally authorized to work in the United States. As the Cornell Law School legal information website explains, “they are not provided work authorizations.”
As for employers, 8 U.S. Code 1324 says that “it is unlawful for a person or other entity … to hire, or to recruit or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an alien knowing the alien is an unauthorized alien.” Nor may any employer “continue to employ the alien in the United States knowing the alien is (or has become) an unauthorized alien with respect to such employment.”
Other states that permit noncitizens who are lawful permanent residents to become cops are California, Oklahoma, Washington, and North Dakota.
Pritzker Rage
For his part, Pritzker has been on a hate-Trump rampage of late.
As The New American reported yesterday, Pritzker continued his Trump-Is-Hitler campaign on Sirius XM radio. Pritzker claims he knows Trump is Hitler reincarnate because he knows many “Holocaust survivors.”
And, said Pritzker, ICE and other federal agents who are enforcing federal immigration laws had better beware. They will be prosecuted for doing their duty.
“The tables will turn one day,” Pritzker told Fox 32 in Chicago:
These people should recognize that maybe they’re not gonna get prosecuted today, although we’re looking at doing that, but they may get prosecuted after the Trump administration because the statute of limitations would not have run out.
Pritzker said hate-Trump local state’s attorneys are looking for a way to prosecute ICE agents.
Such is Pritzker’s vitriol and unreasonable claims that former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who calls himself a “Trumpocrat,” told Tucker Carlson that Pritzker has completely adopted the kookiest far-left positions of Democratic Party radicals.
He said Pritzker is “AOC in drag,” referring to far-left Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York.
