I’ll Be Home for Christmas?

A recent essay in the New York Times’ “Modern Love” column was titled “The Case for Ending a Long, Mostly Good Marriage.” Left unspoken is the possibility that most women, if not all, might be happier and more “fulfilled” were they to raise their own children, at least in the early years, and create a loving home. Like it or not, most men and most women have different abilities, skills, and interests. And even when the mother is absent, it is usually another woman who steps into the void. But one way or another, the obvious can no longer be ignored. If no one is in charge of making and tending the home, there will be no home.
