In spite of over 2,100 emails from Hoosier constituents to legislators over the past few weeks, Senate Bill 236, a bill to help stop the illegal trafficking of abortion drugs into Indiana, did not receive a hearing in the Indiana House and is now dead for 2026.
The bill passed the Indiana Senate in late January by a 35-10 margin, raising hopes Indiana would join Texas and Louisiana in the forefront of the battle to stop abortion drug trafficking.
As it now stands, another year will pass before the Indiana Legislature acts.

“We are profoundly disappointed in the failure of this bill to pass,” said Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “Indiana cannot continue to stand by as abortion drug traffickers continue mailing abortion drugs into our state. We have repeatedly warned legislators that these drugs are killing an unknown number of unborn children while placing women at extreme risk. As it stands, abortion drugs will continue to flood Indiana through online traffickers who boast of no age restrictions and require no ID to order.”
Indiana Right to Life will work with key stakeholders in preparation for the reintroduction of abortion drug trafficking legislation in the 2027 while continuing to call of the FDA and HHS to use its federal powers to halt distribution of abortion drugs by mail.
Thank you to all who sent emails to state legislators over the past few weeks urging support for the legislation to stop abortion drug trafficking. More updates as this develops.
